Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Met by guide and transferred to hotel. Pre-trip briefing in the evening.
Early morning flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot, a thrilling 50-minute journey skimming over Himalayan foothills and landing on the dramatic cliffside airstrip at 2,910m. After permit checks, take a short acclimatization hike around Simikot village, visiting local schools or monasteries to adjust to the altitude. This easy day helps prevent altitude sickness while immersing in Humla's rugged charm.
Begin the trek descending through pine forests along the Karnali River, passing small farms and traditional Humla villages. The trail undulates with river views and birdlife spotting opportunities. Cross suspension bridges and enjoy the warmer lower altitudes – a gentle start covering about 10 km in 4-5 hours, setting the tone for the adventure.
Follow the Karnali River upstream through barley fields and apple orchards, ascending gradually. Pass hot springs near Kermi where you can soak tired muscles. The day involves 5-6 hours of walking (12 km), with chances to interact with locals and observe daily life in this transitional zone between lowlands and high plateaus.
Climb steadily through pine and juniper forests, crossing small streams and visiting the Namkha Khyung Dzong Monastery in Yalbang – a highlight for Buddhist architecture and serene vibes. The 6-hour trek (13 km) offers panoramic river valley views and a sense of entering more remote territory.
Ascend towards higher altitudes, leaving forests behind for open landscapes with yaks grazing. The trail passes mani walls and chortens, with 6-7 hours of moderate uphill walking (14 km). Enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding peaks as you approach the Tibet border area.
A challenging day crossing the first high pass, Nara La, with steep ascents rewarded by stunning vistas. Descend to Hilsa on the Tibet border (possible border market visits). Total 7-8 hours (15 km) of demanding terrain, marking entry into the restricted Limi zone.
Enter the heart of Limi Valley, trekking along barren plateaus with distant snow-capped peaks. The shorter 5-hour day (10 km) allows time to appreciate the vast, untouched wilderness and spot blue sheep on hillsides.
Continue through the valley floor, passing nomadic herder camps and ancient stone houses. Arrive in Til village for cultural interactions. Easy 5-6 hours (12 km) with flat sections ideal for photography.
Short trek to Halji, home to the 1,000-year-old Rinchenling Gompa – explore its intricate murals and attend prayers if timing aligns. Afternoon free for village walks and learning about local Tibetan-influenced life (3-4 hours, 8 km).
Gentle walk across the valley, visiting mani walls and enjoying the serene atmosphere. Reach Jang, another traditional settlement. 4 hours (9 km) with time for rest and cultural immersion.
Rest day at higher altitude with optional hikes to nearby ridges for valley panoramas or deeper village exploration, including local homes and festivals if occurring. Focus on acclimatization to prepare for the next pass – light activities only.
Ascend towards the Nyalu La, camping higher for better pass preparation. The 6-hour trek (11 km) traverses alpine meadows with potential wildlife sightings.
Summit the trek's highest point, Nyalu La, with exhilarating views before a long descent. Challenging 7-8 hours (14 km) – a major achievement with prayer flags marking the pass.
Descend through changing landscapes, revisiting lower valleys. 6-7 hours (15 km) of downhill relief with river crossings and forest re-entry.
Easier downhill along familiar trails, reflecting on the journey. 5 hours (12 km) with hot springs option for relaxation.
Final trekking day ascending back to Simikot, celebrating the loop completion. 4-5 hours (10 km) with village farewells.
Morning flight back to Nepalgunj, with free afternoon for rest or local exploration. Buffer for any weather delays.
Fly to Kathmandu; transfer to hotel. Afternoon free for sightseeing (e.g., Thamel shopping) or rest.

Limi Valley lies in a restricted area of Humla, so a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is mandatory and can only be arranged through a registered Nepali trekking agency. Independent trekking is not permitted, and the minimum group size is 2 persons. We handle all permit applications for you.
The best seasons are spring (April-May) for blooming landscapes and comfortable temperatures, and autumn (September-November) for clear skies and reliable weather. Due to its rain-shadow location, monsoon treks are possible, but spring and autumn remain the most popular choices.
This is a strenuous trek involving 5-8 hour walking days, high passes up to 4,990m, and remote off-trail sections. Previous high-altitude trekking experience and strong physical fitness are highly recommended. Our itinerary includes proper acclimatization days to reduce risks.
Flights from Nepalgunj to Simikot are scenic but weather-dependent. They operate most reliably in spring and autumn. Delays or cancellations can happen, especially during monsoon or winter, so we always build buffer days into the itinerary.
Yes, the Limi Valley section is a fully supported camping trek with no teahouses available in the core valley.
