Frequently Asked & Question

The maximum altitude is 4,984 meters (16,351 ft) on Tserko Ri, an optional but highly recommended acclimatization hike from Kyanjin Gompa. The highest sleeping altitude is Gosaikunda Lake at 4,380 meters (14,370 ft), and the highest point crossed is Lauribina La Pass at 4,610 meters (15,124 ft).

The trek is rated as Challenging/Strenuous. While technically non-technical (no ropes needed), the difficulty comes from the rapid altitude gain, long trekking days (7-9 hours on the pass day), and the need to cross the high and sometimes snowy Lauribina La Pass.

It is a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindu mythology states that Lord Shiva created the lake by piercing his trident (Trishul) into the mountain to draw water and soothe his throat after swallowing a poison, making it a major pilgrimage destination.

The best seasons are Autumn (September to November), which offers clear skies and pleasant temperatures post-monsoon, and Spring (March to May), known for mild weather and spectacular blooms of rhododendron flowers.

Two main permits are mandatory: the Langtang National Park Entry Permit and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) Card. These costs are typically included in your package.

Accommodation is primarily in local Teahouses or Lodges (basic facilities, twin-sharing rooms) during the trek. Food is on a Full Board basis (B, L, D), consisting mainly of local Nepali, Tibetan, and simple continental dishes.

The journey from Kathmandu to the trailhead at Syabrubesi involves a long, scenic drive (approx. 7–9 hours) by road, typically using a Shared Local Jeep or a Private Jeep for greater comfort and speed.
