Nepal is generally considered a very safe destination with low rates of serious crime against tourists. The Nepali people are known for their hospitality and respect for visitors. However, standard precautions against petty theft (like pickpocketing in crowded markets) should always be taken.

The local currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). Foreign currencies (USD, Euro, AUD) can be easily exchanged at the airport, hotels, and authorized money exchange counters in Kathmandu and Lumbini.
